With its mild climate, Nelson/Tasman’s key primary industries include horticulture, agriculture, fishing, and forestry.  Apples and pears are traditional horticultural crops, and hops grown locally are getting international attention. Nelson’s Port is one of the busiest in the country providing an export route for the area’s horticultural crops, fish and forestry exports.  It’s also home to a large fishing fleet.
